Oh I wish I hadn’t said that or I wish I hadn’t done that. Its those things we say, do, or don’t do that cause us to have regrets. We all have that inner voice that knew the right thing to do or say, but the “other” voice is what won out and directed our actions. So what is that “other” voice that influences us so much. Well some might call it the devil, satin, or even a well meaning friend or family member. Whatever you like to attribute it to it’s something you need to get control of and now, not 5 years from now. The first thing you must recognize and accept is that you have much more control of your life than you may think. As an example let’s say you drink to excess, or smoke or do drugs. These actions will definitely contribute to an early death, but you have the choice to do them or not. It’s your decision! Making the wrong choices and decisions can lead to a very unhappy and unsatisfying life. So let’s get started to the right path and no regrets. Now this may seem like a lot of work but it can help you a great deal. It’s kinda like thinking ahead so there will be fewer surprises. When you get up in the morning think of the things that you need to do, and get a big picture in your head. Then think of the possible scenarios of what will be happening as your day progresses, then try to come up with good responses to the various situations you will be facing. Obviously you cannot foresee everything your day will hold but if you have at least a partial grip on the day, the outcome is going to be better than going into the day blindly! One very important thing you will need to work on to make this system work is “self control” whether it’s your temper or being flippant. This system is not an instant cure for saying and doing the wrong thing but it can go a long way towards having few regrets. Think of how good it would feel if you could say that line from the famous song sung by Frank Sinatra “my way”. Regrets? I’ve had a few but then again too few to mention.
