Statistically, almost 90% of the millions of people each year who diet and lose weight, gain it back within one year.
Worse, most gain more weight that they lost! The reason for this is that people in general, and sadly even doctors, nutritionists and personal trainers, approach the issue of weight control by treating the symptoms, not the actual cause of the problem.

The cause of the problem goes beyond diet and exercise, the cause exists within our mind. And when I say ‘mind’ here I am speaking of our subconscious mind. For the purpose of our discussion, we will view our mind as having two parts, the conscious and the subconscious. The reason that most people fail to lose weight and keep it off is they try and do everything with their conscious mind.

For example, let’s say we make a New Year’s resolution to lose weight and this time we REALLY MEAN IT! Our promise to our self is strong and we have the willpower to stick with our diet! How long does this typically last? The reason this is short lived is because we did everything with our conscious mind. Our conscious mind only makes up around 5-10% of our mind, the rest is in our subconscious mind. Any time we attempt to make a change in our habits and only use our conscious mind we fall because the subconscious mind is dominant! So when we only make changes with our conscious mind without reaching deeper into our subconscious , we are only putting a Band-Aid on our problem. We are not solving the issue! The great news is that once we address the issue at a subconscious level then change in lifestyle occurs! Then you will find yourself in that seemingly elusive group of people who not only lose their unwanted pounds, they keep them off, without conscious effort for life! Dr. Bruce Lipton, former professor of medicine at Stanford says that the unconscious mind operates at 40 million bits of data per second, whereas the conscious mind processes at only 40 bits per second. So the unconscious mind is MUCH more powerful than the conscious mind, and it is the unconscious mind which shapes how we live our life. And it is the subconscious mind which determines most of our actions, like our heartbeat, breathing, blinking even driving a car, texting, typing, and reading are predominantly performed through our subconscious minds. Most importantly, this also applies to eating, being active (or not) and living a healthy lifestyle (or not).

Author thoughts:

Our body does follow our mind! To the greatest degree, our bodies are the results of our thoughts. I know a lot of people do not like hearing this. From the moment we were born our parents, family and associates have a tremendous impact on our thought process. From childhood, our minds began to pick u stored in our mind and we began to formulate our beliefs, our core values. For many of us, our lives are a reflection of the programming that took place in childhood.

Mariette Kammerer thoughts:

In reading these few pages I am looking at my own core issues, growing up food was: attention, affection, survival, entertainment,  a filler for happy or sad moments, well being, social acceptance, family gatherings, silent communication + agreement between family members, (food united the family members, no food limits – eat as much as you can – no attention to exercise)

“Food to me is like an attached propeller for breathing, thinking, moving”

This realization is incredible and I know now exactly what  internal links need renewed. This is not total news to me, but the light bulb went on this morning.

All my life I struggled with weight fluctuation, that was depending on what was going on in my life, I always reached out to FOOD. For two decades consistently I worked out and ate right, so any weight gain, I immediately took care of it – I lost it again, quickly.

Then life got in the way, relationship issues, divorce, losing loved ones, family issues…Remember, food is always there for me.

I have interviewed Noah St. John a few times on my Radio Program ‘LifeTalk with Mariette’ and have worked in the past with ‘Afformations’. Key for me was, I connected the ‘DOTS’ and I was ‘OPEN’ for it.  I can change my self-talk about food and its meaning. Will keep everyone posted.
