In The Neighborhood

What Dogs, Cats, and Community Can Teach Us About Life

Sometimes the most meaningful conversations don’t happen in studios or classrooms. They happen right where we live — in our neighborhoods, our homes, and often at the feet of a dog or the quiet gaze of a cat.

In The Neighborhood is a show about exactly that.

It’s about slowing down long enough to notice the lives around us — human and animal — and what we can learn from them. Through real conversations, shared experiences, and honest observations, the show explores how animals, especially dogs and cats, reflect back to us what connection, trust, patience, and care really look like.

Dogs teach us presence. They live fully in the moment, respond to tone more than words, and remind us that loyalty and joy don’t need explanations. Cats teach us boundaries, curiosity, and self-respect. They engage on their own terms and show us that independence and affection can exist side by side.

A central voice on In The Neighborhood is Joellyn Jacobs, an expert with over 40 years of hands-on experience working with animals, including the delicate and deeply meaningful work of raising kittens. Joellyn brings wisdom that can’t be learned from books — the kind that comes from years of observing behavior, building trust, and understanding what animals need in order to thrive.

These conversations are not lectures. They are shared reflections. They invite us to think differently about care, responsibility, and how much animals mirror our own emotional worlds.

In The Neighborhood reminds us that healing doesn’t always come from answers. Sometimes it comes from paying attention.
