“I Wanted More Than Just Paying Bills”
I worked three jobs in my twenties—waitressing, retail, and admin—just to make ends meet. I was proud of my hustle, but I also felt like I was running on a treadmill to nowhere.
Then I began writing late at night—short stories about the people I served during the day. I sent one to a small journal. It got published. It didn’t pay much, but it gave me something I hadn’t felt in years: direction. I still juggle bills, but now I have a voice too.
Advice: Meaning doesn’t erase the struggle—but it makes the struggle worth it.
